Jerome Clifton Dyson (born May 1, 1987 in Rockville , Maryland ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Dyson first played in the NBA Development League (D-League) before he came to individual appearances in the top-endowed professional league NBA with the New Orleans Hornets in 2012 . However, he then continued his career in Israel and Italy . In the 2014/15 season, Dyson played for the Italian cup winner Banco di Sardegna Sassari, for whom he also competed in the top-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2014/15 .

Career

Dyson graduated from Proctor Academy in New Hampshire before entering the University of Connecticut . At university he played under the well-known coach Jim Calhoun for the university team Huskies in the then Big East Conference of the NCAA . In its first year, 2007 missed the nationwide NCAA finals for the first time in five years . A year later, the Huskies surprisingly failed in the first round after extra time to the Toreros of the University of San Diego , who thus moved into the second round for the first time. But in 2009 the Huskies made it back into the Final Four , in which they last stood when they won the title in 2004. This time, however, it failed because of the Spartans of Michigan State University . After Hasheem Thabeet had already been selected in the NBA draft 2009 , it was only enough to participate in the National Invitation Tournament in 2010 , where the huskies were eliminated in the second round. With 1,630 points in 113 games, Dyson ended his career in the NCAA in 2010 after the possible four seasons.

After Dyson was not selected by any club in the NBA's highest endowed professional league in the 2010 NBA draft, he began his professional career first in the D-League with the 66ers from Tulsa . After the runner-up in the previous year, the 66ers were eliminated in 2011 in the semi-finals of the play-offs against Iowa Energy . After a disappointing fifth place four years earlier with NCAA players, the US national team at the Pan American Games in 2011 was formed primarily from players from the D-League such as Justin Dentmon , Greg Stiemsma , Blake Ahearn and Dyson, among others. In the games, however, they lost significantly in the semifinals against hosts Mexico and won the bronze medal against the Dominican Republic in the "small final" . In the following season 2011/12 Dyson was finally allowed to prove himself in the NBA and received at the end of the season in April 2012 the "call-up" of the Hornets from New Orleans . The fixed-term contract was extended and Dyson still had nine appearances in the 2011/12 NBA , in which he was used an average of 20 minutes per game. In the summer of 2012, Dyson came to the Phoenix Suns in a multi-player swap , but they had no use for him and released him just under three weeks later. Then Dyson joined the Israeli first division club Hapoel from Cholon in the Ligat ha'Al for the 2012/13 season . However, at the end of the season in ninth place, Hapoel Holon just missed the play-offs for the title.

For the season 2013/14 Dyson got a contract with Enel New Basket of Brindisi in the highest Italian league Lega Basket Serie A . Together with, among others, the two American-Nigerian players Michael Umeh and Folarin Campbell , who both had already played in the German basketball league , as well as the experienced Italian old international Massimo Bulleri , the team made it into the for the first time since promotion Play-offs for the championship. As a fifth-placed team, they met the new cup winner Banco di Sardegna from Sassari in the first round , to whom they lost in three games. As third in the Italian championship, Sassari then received a wildcard for the highest-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2014/15 . A new signing for Sassari for the following season was Jerome Dyson, who had achieved an average of 17 points, almost four rebounds and three assists for Brindisi in just under 30 minutes of play per game .
