Ji Cheng ( Chinese  計 成  /  计 成 , Pinyin Jì Chéng ; born July 15, 1987 in Harbin , China ) is a former Chinese cyclist .

Athletic career

Ji Cheng started his professional racing career in 2006 with the Continental Team Purapharm from Hong Kong . Since 2007 he has been driving for today's UCI ProTeam Giant-Shimano from the Netherlands . In the 2008 season, Ji Cheng won the first stage with the Chinese national team at the Tour of South China Sea .

In 2012, Ji Cheng was the first Chinese to finish the Vuelta a España and was named the most combative driver during the nineteenth stage of the tour. In July 2014, Ji Cheng started the Tour de France as the first Chinese in cycling history . He reached Paris on July 27, 2014, six hours, two minutes and 24 seconds behind the winner Vincenzo Nibali in 164th and last and thus as the recipient of the Lanterne Rouge . His teammate Marcel Kittel praised Ji, whose job it had been to create escape groups: "He's doing a good job."
