John Dikeman
John Dikeman (* 1983 in Nebraska ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( tenor saxophone , composition ).

Dikeman grew up in Kemmerer, Wyoming ; early role models in his music studies were John Coltrane , Cecil Taylor , John Zorn and Albert Ayler . At the age of 16 he first appeared professionally; His mentor was the Mexican guitarist Stefan Dill , with whom he first recorded in 2000 and who introduced him to the saxophonist Jack Wright , who became his most important influence. He also played with Keefe Jackson and Jon Barrios . From 1999 Dikeman studied saxophone and composition at the Interlochen Arts Academy and briefly at Bennington College with Milford Graves ; he also had private lessons with Joe Maneri . He then moved to New York City, then to Philadelphia. During this time he worked a. a. with Daniel Carter , Lukas Ligeti and Ty Cumbie in The Color Now Band , also with Nate Wooley , Mike Pride , Jack Wright, Toshi Makihara , Jon Barrios, Reuben Radding and Ava Mendoza .
From 2004 to 2007 Dikeman lived in Cairo , where he also taught. As a soloist he appeared with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra , toured North Africa with Mohamed Mounir and played with his own formations in Cairo clubs. In 2005/06 he was a guest at the Lebanese improvisation festival Irtijal . In 2005 Dikeman released his debut album A Combination of Events (aRCHIVE), which featured Zach Fuller, Mike Pride , Jack Wright and Nate Wooley .
At the end of 2007 he moved to Amsterdam and worked in the local improvisation scene. He appeared regularly in venues such as the Bimhuis , Paard van Troje, Café Wilhelmina, Paradox, Lindenberg and OT301 ; He also curated the OT301 New Music and Dance Program and the Tabula Rasa series of events at Maarten Luther Kerk . During this time he played a. a. with Joe McPhee , Han Bennink , Andy Moor , Terrie Ex , Roy Campbell , Hilliard Greene , Mike Reed , Jeb Bishop , Ab Baars , Nate McBride , Fred Lonberg-Holm , Michael Vatcher , Wilbert de Joode , Jasper Stadhouders , Klaus Kugel , Raoul van der Weide , Eric Boeren , Meinrad Kneer and Stevko Busch . At the beginning of 2011 his second album The Double Trio (Monofonus Press) was created in Chicago, which he recorded with bassists Jason Roebke and Joshua Abrams , drummers Frank Rosaly and Mike Reed and trombonist Jeb Bishop.
