Jorge López (composer)

Jorge E. López (also George Lopez ; born November 30, 1955 in Havana ) is an Austrian composer of Cuban origin.

Life

In 1960 Lopez came to the United States with his family, where he lived in New York and Chicago . He was influenced by Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis . He also draws inspiration for his often archaic works from the intensely experienced nature, especially Lapland , Iceland and the North American West. His works oppose current trends in “New Music” and demonstrate an affinity for the music of the turn of the century, 1900, as well as a closeness to the aesthetics of Surrealism. Between 1991 and 2008 he lived in the Mölltal in Upper Carinthia. He has lived in Vienna since 2008. Lopez now calls himself again in the original Spanish form of his first name with the abbreviated middle name Jorge E. López .
