Josef Schneider (born February 5, 1906 in Nuremberg ; † January 18, 1998 in Bamberg ) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bamberg.

Life

Josef Schneider attended the Collegium Germanicum in Rome and studied Catholic theology and philosophy . Josef Schneider was ordained a priest on October 25, 1931 . He initially worked as a chaplain . Archbishop Jacobus Hauck enabled him in 1932 to go to doctoral studies in Rome, where he attended the Pontifical Gregorian University as a doctor of philosophy and theology doctorate was. After his return he was active in pastoral care in Bamberg and Trunstadt. Later he was Subregens at the Bamberg seminary . Schneider was an honorary citizen of Bamberg, honorary senator of the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg , holder of the Bavarian Order of Merit (since 1959) and holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany with star and shoulder ribbon (since 1960). He was a member of the Catholic student associations KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV and KDStV Fredericia Bamberg in the CV and Bavarian Provincial Prior of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
