Jōsō ( Japanese 常 総 市 , - shi ) is a city in Japan in Ibaraki Prefecture .
geography
Jōsō is located west of Tsukuba and east of Koga , not too far (approx. 50 km) from the capital Tokyo .
The river Kinu flows through the urban area, and the river Kokai also flows partly on the eastern city limits .
history
The city of Jōsō was founded on April 1, 2006 from the Shi Mitsukaidō ( 水 海道 市 , -shi ) and the Machi Ishige ( 石 下町 , -machi ) in the Yūki-gun .
On September 10, 2015 , after heavy rains , a burst dam caused large areas of flooding .
