Youth against AIDS e. V. (abbreviation: JGA) is an association exclusively designed by young people based in Hamburg , which has been involved in the fight against HIV / AIDS since 2009  and advocates a diverse and tolerant society. The aim is to convey to young people the state of physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being related to sexuality. This is achieved through a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships.

The association, which is recognized as a non-profit organization, arose from a donation campaign for World AIDS Day by the Michael Stich Foundation together with the Hamburg School of Students' Chamber in 2009. In addition to annual campaigns on the occasion of World AIDS Day, the association carries out educational work throughout the year through the educational project Positive school .

Educational work

Youth against AIDS e. V. performs prevention work (in the form of educational workshops at schools) by young people for young people. The workshops are led by the members who have been trained to become “peers” in a basic seminar lasting several days. The educational workshops are designed for the intermediate level (9th – 10th grade) and consist of two blocks of 90 minutes each. The program has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Health since 2018 under the name "Project Enlightenment" (formerly "Positive School").

organization

The fate of the association is directed by the elected honorary board of directors, which consists of Daniel Nagel (chairman), Marlon Jost and Lennart Falk. The other team consists of young people from all over Europe.

The organization is run and managed independently and exclusively by young people. They receive support from their patron Frank-Walter Steinmeier : “I have been helping young people against AIDS for four years now, and I am always impressed by the great commitment shown by the many young volunteers for this important thing! ”(Patron Steinmeier, on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2016). Other supporters and advisory board members include Jens Spahn (Federal Minister for Health), Gottfried Hirnschall (Director of the Department of HIV and Global Hepatitis Program of the World Health Organization ), Patricia Riekel (Chairwoman of the TRIBUTE-TO-BAMBI Foundation) and Daniel Bahr (Federal Minister for Health a. The guests of the ball, which is now held annually, included celebrities such as Alexandra Daddario , DieLochis , Riccardo Simonetti and Michael Buchinger .

Together with the street artist Stefan Strumbel they designed a weeping statue of Mary. With every "I like" statement on the official Facebook page, the statue "cried" a symbolic tear about the suffering, which the Catholic Church, according to the association, could reduce by lifting the condom ban. The reason for this is the still increasing number of infections in the area of sexually transmitted diseases. In order to reach young people, this campaign worked with various YouTube stars and artists.
