Kaimur is a district in the Indian state of Bihar .

The area is 3332 km². The administrative seat is the city of Bhabua .

history

Kaimur became a district in 1993 when it was separated from Rohtas .

Today the district belongs to the Naxalite - communist influenced " Red Corridor ".

population

The population was 1,626,384 in 2011. The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 26.17% and was therefore very high. Khagaria has a gender ratio of 920 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The district had a literacy rate of 69.34% in 2011 , an increase of almost 14 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus above the average in Bihar. Almost 90% of the population are Hindus and around 10% are Muslims .

Only 4% of the population live in cities.

According to official statistics, the Kaimur district is one of the 250 most backward districts in India, which is divided into a total of 640 districts.

Agriculture is the main part of the economy in the district. The most common crops are rice , wheat and corn .
