The Kia Rhino was produced from 1988 to 2003 truck of Kia Motors . Through the merger with the Hyundai Motor Company to the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group , the model was replaced by the Hyundai Mega Truck .
1st generation (1988–1998)
The 1st generation Rhino was a badge engineering model of the Hino Ranger III, but with an Asia-H07C-6728-cc diesel engine from the Asia Grandbird . Production of the Hino Ranger III ended in Japan in 1989 . After the first Rhino models were delivered as a body shell from the Indonesian production of the Hino Ranger, Kia acquired the Japanese production facilities for the Hino Ranger III and from 1990 built the Rhino entirely in South Korea . From 1992, however, Kia built its own diesel engines from the Kia Titan .
2nd generation (1998 to 2003)
In 1998 a new model appeared, again based on the Hino Ranger. Here, the Rhino II received the body of the Hino Ranger IV, which had been built since 1989, with different headlights and a horizontal instead of a vertical grille. At that time, the Ranger was already being built in a modernized version. The Hino-H07D with 7412 cm³, which the Ranger also had, was used as the engine. In 2000, the design of the front was adapted to that of the modernized Ranger. After the merger with the Hyundai Motor Company to form the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group , it was decided to discontinue all commercial vehicles from Kia and Asia Motors above the Kia Bongo or to market them as Hyundai. Thus, the production of the Rhino ended at the end of 2003 and the Hyundai Mega Truck became the successor.
