history
The compact class vehicle presented to the world market in February 2009 at the same time at the Chicago Auto Show and the Canadian International Auto Show is based in part on the platform of the Kia cee'd . In order to reduce costs, the multi-link rear axle was replaced by a cheaper twist beam axle , the front suspension is the same. The interior contains some elements of the Kia Soul positioned under the cee'd . The vehicle is offered with 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter gasoline engines (the latter only available in the USA). A 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a diesel of the same size followed on the home market . Peter Schreyer , who joined Kia in 2006, is responsible for the body shape of the vehicle . With this model, he introduced the Tiger Nose grille as a distinguishing feature of the brand.
The Forte has been available in North America and China since June 2009. Production for the Chinese market takes place in the Yancheng plant, which opened in 2007, and for all other markets in the Korean Hwasung plant. The name varies between the markets and is based on the predecessor of the Forte. It will continue to be offered as Cerato in Australia, Great Britain and South America and as Cerato Forte in Singapore . In China it was even given the name of its predecessor Kia Shuma , which at that time was still exported there from Korea.
In 2010, the Forte was the manufacturer's best-selling model, with a good 400,000 units, almost twice as many as the second most popular vehicle, the distantly platform-related Sportage .
positioning
There are no plans to export the Forte to Europe, as Kia is already represented in the compact class with the technically more complex Kia cee'd designed for the European market .
This two-pronged offer based on the same platform is rounded off by the hatchback version of the Forte. This was presented at the New York International Auto Show 2010.
The direct competitors of the Forte on the domestic market are the Renault Samsung SM3 , Daewoo Lacetti Premiere and the Hyundai Avante , which is also not offered in Europe as a cheaper variant of the Hyundai i30 . Both Hyundai models are based on the same compact platform as Forte and cee'd.
Model family
The four-door notchback sedan was followed in August 2009 based on the concept car Kia Koup Concept , the first ever two-door coupe model of Kia under the name Forte Koup . Compared to the other variants, this is lowered by 10 mm to 14 cm ground clearance. A hatchback variant followed in 2010 as the third body shape.
Under the “Eco Dynamics” banner, Kia is pushing efforts to develop more environmentally friendly technologies. The Kia Forte LPI Hybrid has been available on the Korean market since August 2009 . Situated on the Seoul Motor Show 2009 presented vehicle stands next to a newly developed liquid gas - hybrid -drive through a built first time in a production car world's lithium polymer battery out.
In summer 2010, a five-door hatchback sedan was added as the third body version.
