The Kia Stinger is an upper middle class passenger car from Kia Motors sold as a four-door coupé .
history
At the International Motor Show in September 2011, Kia showed the 291 kW (395 hp) GT Concept vehicle, a first glimpse of a possible four-door coupé from the brand. Due to the positive feedback, the manufacturer developed the vehicle until it was ready for series production. This production vehicle made its debut at the NAIAS in Detroit in January 2017 as the Stinger (English, translated: "sting") and went on sale in Europe on October 21, 2017 at prices starting at 43,990 euros. On August 12, 2020, Kia presented a visually revised version of the series.
The design of the Stinger was developed by Peter Schreyer and Gregory Guillaume in Frankfurt am Main . Albert Biermann, who was deputy head of development at BMW M GmbH , was also involved in the development ; since 2015 he has been Chief Development Officer at Hyundai Motor Group , to which Kia belongs.
Technical specifications
For the sedan, there will initially be a choice of two gasoline engines and a diesel engine planned exclusively for Europe . The more powerful of the two gasoline engines is also available in the G90 from sister company Genesis , the diesel engine used by Kia in the Sorento . The sedan is offered with an 8- speed automatic transmission as standard . With the 09/2018 facelift, the models with gasoline engines received a gasoline particle filter and software adapted to it. While the rear-wheel drive variants had a mechanical limited-slip differential on the rear axle from the start, this was also installed in the all-wheel drive vehicles with the facelift.
Technically, the Stinger is based on the Genesis G80 . From him, Kia takes over, among other things, the longitudinally installed front engine, the rear-wheel drive and the chassis with MacPherson struts and wishbones at the front and multi-link axle at the rear. The all-wheel drive, which is also available, can give up to 100% of the drive force to the rear wheels.
