The Kia Joice is a van that was built by the Korean car manufacturer Kia Motors from 1999 to 2003. In some Asian markets it was offered as the Kia Carstar .

interpretation

The Joice was introduced at the Seoul Auto Show in March 1999. It was the Korean manufacturer's first mid-size van with seven seats, and when it was launched, it was the first car to be released after the merger with Hyundai Motor Company . The design of the Joice is based on that of delivery vans, but thanks to a number of special details, such as the large chrome-plated radiator grille and the side fender flares, it was possible to find sufficiently modern lines. With its box-shaped body, the Joice offers seven seats in three rows (configuration 2 - 3 - 2). The car has a drag coefficient of 0.40. The trunk can be expanded from 210 l to 1750 l by folding down the rear bench seats. The tank holds 60 liters of fuel.

The interior is made of medium-quality materials, but the plastic parts are so well assembled that shifts and the resulting crackling are avoided. The second row of seats is designed so that it can be easily expanded or converted into a table. The instruments are indirectly illuminated in green and are easy to read. Also, altimeter , compass and barometer are included. The most important controls for the audio system and air conditioning are located on the center console.

Like the Hyundai Santamo, the Joice has the floor pan of the Mitsubishi Space Wagon . The engine is installed transversely at the front and drives the front wheels. The front and rear axles are individually suspended on MacPherson struts . They have telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers and stabilizers. The car is equipped with a manual five-speed gearbox as standard, but a four-speed automatic gearbox is also available on request.

The Joice has two airbags in the front, an ABS and headrests on all seats. At the customer's request, the cars can also be equipped with aluminum wheels, automatic air conditioning, radio / CD player and electric window lifters at the front and rear.

Engines

The engine installed first was a 2.0 l four-cylinder in-line engine (1997 cm³, "Sirius", petrol) from Mitsubishi , which was homologated according to Euro 2 and had variable valve control. The 16-valve engine made 139 hp (102 kW) at 6000 min -1 the max. Torque was 182 Nm at 4800 min -1 . He accelerated the car in 10.5 s from 0-100 km / h up to max. 180 km / h. The petrol consumption was 11.1 l / 100 km, which corresponds to CO 2 emissions of 264 g / km.

In 2000 the 2.0 l 16V engine was converted to Euro 3 . The output was only 120 PS (88 kW) and the fuel consumption fell to 9.7 l / 100 km. The acceleration from 0-100 km / h was 11.5 s and the top speed was 175 km / h. The CO 2 emissions are 231 g / km.
