Killing Jesus is a 2015 American-Moroccan three-part miniseries . The screenplay, written by Walon Green , is based on the novel of the same name by Martin Dugard and Bill O'Reilly . The three-part miniseries premiered on March 29, 2015 on the National Geographic Channel .

The life of Jesus of Nazareth is retold , mainly from the point of view of the politicians of that time. The focus is also less on the life of the theological than the historical Jesus. The focus is on the decisions of Herod the Great , his son Herod Antipas , the high priest Caiaphas and the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate . Jesus' presence in Judea and Galilee, his words and deeds, cause those in power to fear him, fearing for their status and influence. In the end, Jesus is captured and sentenced to death by crucifixion .
