Kraschwitz is a district of Nobitz in the Thuringian district of Altenburger Land . He was incorporated into Wilchwitz in 1922 and came with this community on May 6, 1993 to the community of Nobitz.

geography

Kraschwitz is the northernmost part of the municipality of Nobitz. It is located on the eastern bank of the Pleißenaue between Altenburg in the west and not far from the state border with Saxony in the east.

history

The first documentary mention as Nicraswiz in the Bosau tithe register is 1181 and later again in 1214 with the description of the location on the lower floodplain below the village of Wilchwitz . In 1307 the Burgraves of Altenburg exchanged their possessions in Kraschwitz for the Teutonic Order of Altenburg. Around 1445 the population was named with thirteen sedentary farming families and the residents of a farm.

Kraschwitz later belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg, which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place again became part of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 on, Kraschwitz belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920.

Since 1922 the place belonged to the district of Altenburg . On October 1, 1922, Kraschwitz was incorporated into Wilchwitz . These two places formerly formed a Sorbian village complex. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Kraschwitz came as the district of Wilchwitz with the district Altenburg at the Leipzig district , since 1990 as a county belonged to Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country. With the incorporation of the Wilchwitz community into the Nobitz community, Kraschwitz became a district of Nobitz on May 6, 1993.

architecture

The church as seen from the northwest.

As in most places in the Altenburger Land, well-preserved four-sided courtyards can be found in Kraschwitz, and there are also some houses that have been around for several centuries. The predominant type of building here is massive, there are only a few timber frame buildings.

The old village complex has partially changed due to repeated fires over the centuries. In 1812 there was a serious fire in the church , which is the center of the village. However, it was restored in the same year. In addition, two new bells were installed in 1818. The place decided to undertake a comprehensive renovation in 1837 due to the already acute dilapidation of the church. It was given a lighter paint job, which made it look friendlier, and a vestibule was added to make the entire building more spacious. A master carpenter by the name of Voretzsch from Altenburg donated a turret to the church on the roof. After the fall of the Wall there was a gradual renewal and so it was reopened on May 4, 2003 with a church service.

Events

Annual events attract many guests from the Altenburger Land, all of Thuringia, but also Saxony. Examples of this are the Open Monument Day or The Village Lives . Visitors can experience the Altenburg farming tradition up close. The residents of Kraschwitz themselves take on the role of actors on such occasions.
