Maltis is a district of the municipality Nobitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

location

The agricultural village is located in the Altenburger Loesshügelland on the edge of a spring basin at 255 meters above sea level. South of Saara is the Sorbian village with the county road 515 with connection to the federal road 93 near Zehma .

history

The first mention of the place Maltis in a document of Bishop Udo II of Merseburg mentions a Mr. Hedenricus = Heidenreich von Maltis in connection with the Benedictine monastery Bosau , the document dates on April 2nd, 1186.

Maltis belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .

On July 1, 1950, Maltis was incorporated into Zürchau. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Maltis came as the district of Zürchau with the county Schmölln to the district of Leipzig , since 1990 as a county belonged to Schmölln Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country. With the incorporation of the municipality of Zürchau into the municipality of Zehma , Maltis became a district of Zehma on November 1, 1973. With the rise of the municipality Zehma in the unified municipality Saara , Maltis became a district of this municipality on January 1, 1996, until it came to Nobitz on December 31, 2012.

In 1988, Maltis celebrated its 800th anniversary with many guests at a large village festival. Today, the estate's four-sided courtyard is in a poor structural condition and continues to be used for agriculture. In 2012 about 80 people lived in the district.

Maltis manor

Maltis was in the territory of the Counts of Schönburg . This family died out in 1583 with Hieronymus von Maltis . Previously, the Zürchau manor, one kilometer to the east, was also owned by the family. After the introduction of the Reformation, the pastoral position was transferred to the somewhat larger town of Zürchau . As early as 1559, the von Maltis family property came into the hands of Anton von Berbisdorf ; it included the estates of Maltis, Zürchau and Löhmigen . Only a few sources report on the local farmers: Martin Kratzsch, who was born in Maltis, was one of the leaders of the peasant war in the Altenburg region. In 1583 Maltis counted 90 residents, there were 16 "fireplaces" (apartments), the manor and a rectory. The shepherd was given a place to sleep in the community's shepherd's house.

At that time the Maltiser estate was only inhabited by servants "as a Forwergk des Junkers von Zürchau". A description of the place mentions a widow with four children as a resident. Other owners of the place and lords of the lower jurisdiction were Sebastian von Berbisdorf , followed by his heirs Georg Haubold and Wolf Caspar von Berbisdorf . In the middle of the 17th century, Hans Heinich Stange appeared as the landowner, whose wife Maria Elisabeth Stange came from the von der Gablentz family, who were wealthy in the Altenburg area .

After the Thirty Years War , the property, which was divided several times, passed into different hands. In the 18th century, Maltis, located in the area of the Counts of Schönburg, was reunited with the Zürchau manor. The patronage of the Maltis parish belonged to the manor of Zürchau, the lord of Maltis was (only) the patrimonial judge of the village and the Maltis, the place now consisted of nine houses, six “hand goods” and two “tension goods”.

In 1797 an official survey of the goods and buildings was carried out. The total area was 151.18 hectares. The tax file of 1854 gives 39.95 hectares as the size of the Maltis manor, which corresponds to about ¼ of the village hall. The middle-class Panzer family acquired the Maltis estate at the beginning of the 19th century and kept the property until 1890. In 1923, Hans Ulbricht acquired the estate and farmed the land and his livestock: six horses, 32 cattle, 15 pigs. In 1933 Ulbricht sold to a Crimmitschau manufacturer who leased the property again. In 1939, accommodations for seasonal workers were created in the abandoned cowshed (!). At the instigation of the church administration, the parish was moved to Saara in 1935.
