Adjacent districts in the municipality of Nobitz are Zehma, Gieba , Runsdorf and Goldschau , starting from the north , and the two Gößnitz districts Pfarrsdorf and Koblenz in the south. In addition to the neighboring towns of Gieba, Runsdorf and Goldschau, Gösdorf , Großmecka (with Kleinmecka ), Tautenhain and Zumroda also belonged to the former municipality of Podelwitz .

history

Paleolithic hand ax finds from 50,000 years ago were discovered in Podelwitz. The village is a Sorbian Rundling . The place is mentioned for the first time in 1200 as Budowitz, in 1364 as Budowil and in 1445 as Bodelwicz.

In 1257, Tuto von Gößnitz , to whom the town of Gößnitz, located southwest of Podelwitz, owes its first documented mention four years earlier, besides the town itself also owned the towns of Podelwitz and Kummer . Around 1450 the manor belonged to the Lords of Kertschütz , whose last representative Georg von Kertschütz died in 1515. With this the property fell to the sovereign, who sold it to the Georgenstift in Altenburg in 1519 . Various noble families owned the manor until the 19th century. Since 1860 it has belonged to the Kirmse family, around 1880 with an area of 67 hectares. She cultivated the land until the collectivization of agriculture and with it the establishment of the LPG Frohe Zukunft .

Podelwitz belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .

On July 1, 1950, Gieba, Goldschau and Runsdorf were incorporated into Podelwitz. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus the municipality Podelwitz came with the district Schmölln to the district Leipzig , which since 1990 belonged as district Schmölln to Thuringia and 1994 in the district Altenburger Land. On November 1, 1973, the municipalities of Großmecka (with the districts of Gösdorf and Tautenhain and the locality of Kleinmecka) and Zumroda were incorporated. On March 8, 1994, the municipality Podelwitz joined the Saara administrative community .

With the formation of the unified community Saara , the districts of the municipality Podelwitz became districts of this municipality on January 1, 1996, until it came to Nobitz on December 31, 2012. There is a doctor's practice and a kindergarten, the volunteer fire brigade with a meeting place for the AWO and a restaurant with the seat of the Carneval Association PCC eV , which organizes numerous events. In 1996 the former municipal office was restored, a half-timbered building .
