The LAPV Enok (of English. " L ight A rmoured P atROL V ehicle") is a protected patrol vehicle 2 to 6, the developed for the new generation of protected LAPV vehicle guiding and function vehicles (GFF) belongs. In the Bundeswehr it has the generic name "Enok", another name for the raccoon dog .

The vehicle is a further development of the Bundeswehr off-road vehicle Wolf with its special protection equipment (SSA for short). The manufacturer is ACS Armored Car Systems GmbH based in Aichach , a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gruma Nutzfahrzeuge based in Derching . Other important sub- suppliers are LeTech - Special Purpose Vehicles (formerly Lennartz Technik) in Welzheim and, for the drive, the Austrian Magna Steyr based in Graz .

Range of use

Many years of experience from foreign deployments of the German armed forces with the various versions of the Mercedes-Benz " Wolf " ( W 461 with switchable all-wheel drive ) flowed into the development of the Enok . This resulted, among other things, in a greater fording depth due to the higher body and more suspension travel. The vehicle therefore has good rough road properties and is suitable for use under difficult conditions. The maximum speed on the road is around 95 km / h; the range is 500 km.

Construction and protection

The LAPV Enok is different than that used previously Wolf SSA with an armored steel - cabin equipped and protected by the NATO standard STANAG 4569 Level 2 against hard-core ammunition. The armor provides all-round ballistic protection against armor-piercing assault rifle ammunition up to caliber 7.62 × 39 mm and class 2a mine protection (explosion under wheel) against anti-tank mines with an explosive force of 6 kg.

The protection was checked at the Wehrtechnischen Dienststelle 91 by the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement and the user, the Bundeswehr, and corresponds to the requirements of the Bundeswehr from the Protected Command and Functional Vehicles (GFF) class 1 project.

Like the wolf, the Enok can also be transported through the air with the CH-53G helicopter .

Orders

All vehicles involved in the competition for the GFF class 1 project ( Gavial , Mungo 3 , Ferret and Enok) were rejected by the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement in 2008 as insufficient. Nevertheless, in the same year, the Bundeswehr ordered a small number of the Enoks offered by Mercedes-Benz as part of an immediate requirement.

At the end of 2010, the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement finally chose the Enok, and an initial batch of 45 vehicles was ordered for delivery by the end of 2010 and further procurement is planned for 2011 and 2012. As a result, there were around 130 vehicles in different versions in 2014.

At the beginning of 2015, the German Armed Forces ordered 84 additional vehicles worth 56.3 million euros, which should be delivered by the end of 2017 [obsolete] . These include 49 Enok 6.1 units for the Special Forces Command (KSK), which has a permissible total weight of 6.1 tons thanks to improved armor and payload.

Since mid-2018, the Federal Police has had 7 vehicles of the type LAPV Enok 6.1 and the name Protected Emergency Vehicle 2 - Aviation Security (GEF-2 LuSi); a further 21 vehicles are to be procured by mid-2019. They are to be equipped with a remote-controlled weapon station FLW 100 and the HK machine gun MG5A1 and stationed at airports.
