The province of Laghouat ( Arabic ولاية الأغواط, DMG Wilāyat al-Aġwāṭ , tamazight ⴰⴳⴻⵣⴷⵓ ⵏ ⵍⴻⵖⵡⴰⵟ Agezdu n Leɣwaṭ ) is a province ( wilaya ) in central Algeria .

The province lies on the northern border of the Sahara in the transition area between the densely populated north and the sparsely populated south and has an area of ​​26,941 km².

Around 414,000 people (2006 estimate) inhabit the province, so the population density is 15 people per square kilometer.

The capital of the province is Laghouat .
