Larry Mitchell (born June 2, 1967 in Zweibrücken ) is a former German- Canadian ice hockey player who was active during his career for the EC Bad Nauheim , the Krefeld Pinguine and the ESC Wedemark , among others . He has been the sports director of the ERC Ingolstadt since March 2017 .
Career
As a player
Mitchell began his career in 1986 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Cornwall Royals . There he was one of the players with the highest points on the team in his first season. In the 71 games that he played, he was able to achieve 87 points scorer. In the next season he was able to increase his points yield. He was used in 77 games and scored 135 points. In 1990 Mitchell was in the squad of EC Peiting , with whom he played in the Oberliga Süd from then on .
After a short interlude at Grefrather EC , he returned for the 1992/93 season to EC Peiting, which was now represented in the Regionalliga Süd. For the Peitinger , however, he only played one game and left the club again. He then signed a contract with EA Kempten . There the then 25-year-old developed into one of the top performers and was part of the regular squad. In a total of 22 league games he was able to achieve 59 points scorer.
In the following years Mitchell changed clubs several times. Career stations have included EA Schongau , again EC Peiting, EHC Salzgitter and ESC Wedemark. He reached the peak of his career at ESC Wedemark. In the end, he wore the ESC jersey 39 times and scored 124 points. So he was one of the best scorers in the team of the then second division club. At the end of the 1995/96 season , the people in charge of the Krefeld Penguins signed him up. Mitchell thus completed his first DEL game. He then went on the ice twice for league rivals EC Hannover before signing a contract with Wedemark Scorpions in the summer of 1996, where he had already been active a year earlier.
With the Scorpions, however, he was only under contract for a few months and after a further eleven DEL games he joined EC Bad Nauheim , which was then playing in the 1st division North, and from 1998 in the Bundesliga. He played in Bad Nauheim for four years and moved to SC Bietigheim-Bissingen in 2000 . After another engagement at EV Duisburg , he ended his ice hockey career at the end of the 2000/01 season at the age of 34 with the Bayreuth Tigers in the league.

For the 2005/2006 season, Larry Mitchell signed his first coaching contract with the league club EV Landsberg . Mitchell celebrated the championship title in his first season and led the EVL into the 2nd Bundesliga. One of Mitchell's strengths is meticulous preparation, he loves statistics and always wants to be optimally informed about his opponent. Larry Mitchell is considered a talent discoverer, he formed players like Adam Mitchell , Jordan Webb , Andrew McPherson and Dennis Endras , who all made it to the DEL via the lower leagues. Mitchell stayed with EV Landsberg until December 2007 when the club ran into financial difficulties.
On December 13, 2007, Larry Mitchell signed a contract with the Augsburg Panthers. The native Canadian replaced Paulin Bordeleau as head coach. In the 2009/10 DEL season, Mitchell celebrated his greatest success so far, when he led the Augsburg Panthers team to the German runner-up title.
On December 1, 2014, Larry Mitchell was released from the Augsburg Panthers. On December 6, 2014, the Straubing Tigers announced that he is the new head coach of the Straubing team. He stayed in office until the end of the 2016/17 season. The separation from the Straubingers took place "by mutual agreement".
He stayed in the DEL and took over the position of sports director at ERC Ingolstadt at the end of March 2017 . After the sacking of Tommy Samuelsson in November 2017, Mitchell also acted temporarily as ERC head coach until Doug Shedden was hired shortly before Christmas 2017, before he concentrated fully on his post as director.
Personal
Mitchell's father was a soldier in the Canadian Army and temporarily stationed in Germany. During this time, Larry was born in Zweibrücken .
