Ville Koistinen (born June 17, 1982 in Oulu ) is a Finnish ice hockey player in the position of defender who has been under contract with ERC Ingolstadt in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since January 2018 .
Career
Ville Koistinen played from 2000 to 2006 for the Finnish ice hockey club Ilves Tampere , before he was signed as an undrafted player by the Nashville Predators of the NHL for two years in the summer of 2006 . They used him in the 2006/07 season first with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL , where he came in 63 games on nine goals and 34 assists. Thanks to this strong performance, he was for the first time in the 2007/08 season in the squad of the Predators. In his first NHL season for the Predators, he came in 48 games on four goals and 13 assists.
In the summer of 2009 Koistinen signed a two-year contract with the Florida Panthers , but came in the following season only on 17 appearances in the NHL. The Panthers then bought themselves out of the contract in the summer of 2010 and Koistinen was initially unemployed. It was not until November of the same year that he found a new club in Skellefteå AIK from the Elitserien . In May 2011 the Finn received a contract with Ilves Tampere. In late December 2011, he joined Salawat Yulayev Ufa from the Continental Hockey League for the remainder of the 2011/12 season , but returned to Ilves after the season ended. In his native Finland, however, it only lasted one season. In the 2013/14 season he moved to the Swiss record champions HC Davos in the National League A , with which he became Swiss champions in 2015 , even if he was no longer used in the playoffs. He then moved on to league rivals SCL Tigers , where he was under contract until January 1, 2018. Due to a marriage crisis, he asked to terminate his contract.
On January 2, 2018, the ERC Ingolstadt signed Koistinen until the end of the season. After extensive negotiations, the contract was extended to the end of the 2019/20 season during the summer break.
In June 2018, Koistinen was fined 1200 euros in Finland for domestic violence.
International
As a junior, Koistinen went through the Finnish selection teams of various age groups, but was not nominated for world championships.
With the Finnish men's selection , he took part in the 2007 , 2008 and 2009 world championships, where he and his team won the silver medal in 2007 and the bronze medal a year later.
