The 4-by-400-meter relay team of women at the 1971 European Athletics Championships was on 14 and 15 August 1971 at the Olympic Stadium of Helsinki held.
The GDR became European champions with the cast of Rita Kühne , Ingelore Lohse , Helga Seidler and Monika Zehre . The relay set a new world record and was the first team to run this distance under 3:30 minutes. Second place went to the Federal Republic of Germany with Anette Rückes , Christel Frese , Hildegard Falck and Inge Bödding . Bronze went to the USSR (Raissa Nikanorowa, Wera Popkowa , Nadeschda Kolesnikowa , Natalja Tschistjakowa ).
Note on the times
At these European Championships, the times were officially given, as was customary in the past, in values rounded to tenths of a second. However, it is based on the electronic measurements, the exact hundredths of which are known and listed in the results lists of the sources. With the distances from the middle distances upwards and also in the 4 x 400 meter relay, the differences to the officially rounded values to tenths of a second do not often play the decisive role as on the sprint courses . Therefore, only the exact times are listed in the following summary of results.
Records
In contrast to the note on the time information above, there is a difference in the records with regard to the official records specified in tenths of a second and the unofficial records listed exactly in hundredths of a second. Therefore both versions are given here.
Official records - given in tenths of a second
