The Lienig nature reserve is located in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . It extends west of Buchenau , a district of the city of Amt Creuzburg . The Werra flows north of the area and the L 1017 road runs along it .

The 22.5 hectare area with the NSG no. 25 was placed under nature protection in 1961.
