The Mertelstal - Heldrastein nature reserve is located in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . It extends northeast of Wolfmannsgehau , a small settlement belonging to the Ifta district of the city of Treffurt , and west of Schnellmannshausen , a district of Treffurt. The state road L 2109 runs along the northeastern edge of the area, while the state border with Hesse runs along the western and northeastern edge . The Werra flows to the north , the B 250 to the east and the B 7 to the south .
