The Horbel - Hoflar - Birkenberg nature reserve is located in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district and the Wartburg district in Thuringia . It extends northwest of Kaltenwestheim , a district of the city of Kaltennordheim , directly on the western border with Hesse . The B 285 runs east of the area and the L 1124 state road to the south .
