It belongs to a group of Erdfallweihern between Urnshausen and Roßdorf caused by the collapse of cavities of the upcoming underground Zechstein - Salinars have emerged. The surrounding red sandstone slopes are covered with deciduous forest down to the bank of the pond. In the north-west the Bernshausen cowl is not deepened.
