The nature reserve Brühl von Merkers is located in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .

location

The area extends northeast of Merkers , a district of the Krayenberg municipality , along the Werra . The B 84 runs northwest of the area, the L 1120 state road to the east and the B 62 to the south . To the north it is bounded by the Werra and the Krayenberg , to the southwest by the Bad Salzungen – Unterbreizbach railway line and to the east by the Tiefenort district of the city of Bad Salzungen .

The 175.6 hectare area with NSG no. 223 was placed under nature protection in 2014.

White storks have been nesting in the Werraaue near Merkers every year since 2011 . A nesting aid mounted on a disused power pole serves as a nest.
