List of Gothic brick structures in Russia
The list of brick Gothic buildings in Russia is the most complete compilation of brick Gothic buildings in Russia . It is part of the Gothic Brick Buildings List , in which the entire European inventory of Gothic brick buildings is listed as completely as possible. The only buildings included are those on which the brick appears somewhere or, in the case of muddy surfaces, at least the brick structure of the masonry is recognizable.
Historical background:
There is probably only one brick Gothic building in the medieval borders of Russia. It was established in Veliky Novgorod at the time when the Novgorod Republic was an independent state that stretched west and north of the Grand Duchy of Moscow . In addition, there are individual buildings of the Byzantine- Russian tradition in the city , which have individual Gothic elements, sometimes made of brick. It is questionable, however, whether those brick uses follow byzantine and north-west European technology.
All other Gothic brick buildings in present-day Russia were built before the places in question belonged to Russia. At least one structure is of Swedish origin.
Most of Russia's Gothic brick buildings are in the Kaliningrad exclave. Their area formed together with the north bordering today's Lesser Lithuania and the south bordering today's Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, the Prussian landscape , the core area of the order state .

In the Republic of Novgorod , some churches were built, which, despite their overall Russian, ultimately Byzantine-influenced structure, have some Gothic elements. Some of them have wall openings and brick pilaster strips. How much of it was visible at what times remains open. Some are plastered with windows facing the masonry. The episcopal palace on the Novgorod Kremlin , which was built a few decades before the annexation by the Grand Duchy of Moscow , was built, unlike the churches, with the help of Western craftsmen.
