Zinna Monastery

The area around Zinna Monastery has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. In 1170 the Cistercian monastery was founded by the Archbishop of Magdeburg, Wichmann . It was founded in the northwestern part of the present day town. The monastery developed into one of the big landowners, so numerous villages in the area, the city of Luckenwalde and Ländereinem in Barnim belonged . In 1533 the monastery was closed and the Zinna office was established. In 1764 a linen weaver colony was built according to plans by King Friedrich II . A right-angled road network was laid out, with an octagonal square in the middle. Most are semi-detached houses. In 1919 a plush weaving mill was opened, and after the Second World War it was continued as VEB plush and upholstery fabric weaving mill Hohenstein-Ernstthal.

Markendorf is mentioned for the first time in 1368. However, circular graves from the Bronze Age have been found northwest of the town. The church and school burned down in the Thirty Years War. The place was almost uninhabited. The estate was founded in 1665. The establishment of a pioneer training area at the beginning of the 20th century was important for the development of the village. Landmine tests were carried out here and war gas was tested. In 1921, displaced persons from Alsace settled northeast of Markendorf in the settlement.

Neuheim

The place was mentioned as the village of Zinna as early as 1170. At that time it already belonged to the Zinna Monastery. In 1413 and 1417 the village was sacked. In the years 1642, 1709, 1760, 1866 and 1875 there were major fires that destroyed major parts of the village. From 1864 the military training area shaped the area around the village of Zinna. In 1937 the village had to be left because of an expansion of the military training area, but the houses remained standing. They were used as homes for the workers in the military camp. After the Second World War, refugees from Gablonz came to the town and started a glass jewelry factory. In 1950 it became VEB Gablona jewelry.

After the dissolution of the Zinnas monastery, the place belonged to the Werder office. In 1642 the village burned down and partly fell desolate . The place was repopulated from the middle of the 18th century. The military shaped Werder in the 20th century, before the Second World War there was a bomb dropping site nearby, after the Second World War the area around Werder was a training area for the Warsaw Pact.
