List of entries for the best foreign language film for the 1977 Academy Awards
The following 24 films, all from different countries, were nominations in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 1976 Academy Awards . The highlighted titles were the five ultimately nominated films, which come from the GDR, Ivory Coast, France, Italy and Poland.
The Oscar ultimately went to the black comedy Longing for Africa from Ivory Coast. By the standards, the film likely would not have been accepted as the winner as the director of the film is French and the production of the film was also largely French. No proposal has been submitted by the Ivory Coast since winning the Oscar.
