List of entries for the best foreign language film for the 2017 Academy Awards
The list of entries for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards 2017 performs all the Oscar ceremony in 2017 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for the category of best foreign language film films submitted. A total of 89 films were submitted, setting a new record for participation. It was the first time that a film from Yemen was submitted.
The pre-selection (short list) of nine films was announced in December 15, 2016, the five nominations followed on January 24, 2017. Nominated were Australia Tanna - A forbidden love of Martin Butler and Bentley Dean , Denmark Under the Sand - The promise of freedom by Martin Zandvliet , Germany's Toni Erdmann by Martin Zandvliet, Iran's The Salesman by Asghar Farhadi and Sweden's A Man Called Ove by Hannes Holm . Canada's Simply the End of the World by Xavier Dolan , Norway's The King's Choice - Attack on Norway by Erik Poppe , Russia's Paradise by Andrei Sergejewitsch Michalkow-Konschalowski and Switzerland My Life as Zucchini by Claude Barras were not included in the preselection .
The award ceremony took place on February 22, 2015, when Iran prevailed with Asghar Farhadi's The Salesman . Already in 2012 , Iran was able to win the prize in this category, also directed by Farhadi.
