List of entries for Best Foreign Language Film for the 1988 Academy Awards
The following 30 films, all from different countries, were nominations in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 1988 Academy Awards . The highlighted titles were the five ultimately nominated films, which come from Denmark, France, Italy, Norway and Spain. The Oscar went to Babette's festival from Denmark. The critically acclaimed film Der Himmel über Berlin by Wim Wenders from West Germany was not nominated, although it was one of the favorites.
For the first time, a proposal from Indonesia was submitted for this film award. The Georgian-language film Die Reue was submitted from the Soviet Union , which was produced in 1984 but was banned until 1987.
