List of entries for the best foreign language film for the 2016 Academy Awards

The following 81 films, all from different countries, were nominations in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 2016 Academy Awards .

The countries were able to submit their proposals until September 30, 2015, and Paraguay took part in this procedure for the first time. In December 2015, a preselection with the nine semi-finalists was published. The final five nominations were announced on January 14, 2016 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater . The Oscar finally went to the Hungarian film Son of Saul by László Nemes .
