By far the largest agglomeration in Uruguay is Montevideo with a population of 1,740,302 (as of January 1, 2005). This means that half of the country's population is concentrated in the capital region.

The following table lists the cities with more than 10,000 inhabitants, the results of the census of May 21, 1975, October 23, 1985, May 2, 1996 and July 1, 2004, as well as the department to which the city belongs .
