List of cities in Kaliningrad Oblast

This is a list of cities and settlements of urban type in the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast .

The following table contains the cities and urban settlements of the Oblast, their Russian names, the previous German names, the administrative units to which they belong ( Rajon or Stadtkreis ), their population figures for October 14, 2010, for comparison the population figures from 1939, the City arms and geographic coordinates.

Today there are 22 cities and two urban-type settlements in the oblast. Eight of the towns received their town charter only after 1945. On the other hand, until the end of the Second World War , there were ten further towns in East Prussia , which is now part of the Kaliningrad Oblast , whose town charter was not renewed after it became part of the Soviet Union . The reason for this was the extensive destruction of the places affected by war events and the fact that there was only a small amount of resettlement there. One of these former cities, Gerdauen, now forms the urban-type settlement Schelesnodoroschny , the other nine are now rural settlements and are listed in a separate list.
