The political flags of East Timor are a widespread symbol of all parties in the Southeast Asian country .

use

The party flags serve as advertising media at political events and were also shown on the ballot papers for the parliamentary elections on June 30, 2007 as identification marks for illiterate people . 16 parties ran for the 2007 parliamentary elections. One of the electoral alliances had its own flag.

history

The first party flags were created when the first parties were founded in what was then the colony of Portuguese Timor in 1974/75, but it was not until the occupying power of Indonesia that the tradition of party flags, which are used in political parades, was taken up. It was not until the first elections under UN administration in 2001 that party flags got their current meaning. In both 2001 and 2007 the United Nations financed the parties' promotional material and thus also the flags. Many parties either use the party name or the abbreviation on the flag.

list

The list shows the current flags of the parties and alliances currently in existence in East Timor. The party name is given in the party's preferred official language ( Portuguese or Tetum ).

After the end of the alliance, the flag was also used by KOTA on its own. Black represents darkness, white represents light. There is a movement from the darkness into the light. Eight is a magical number for both Hindus and Buddhists. In algebra , it symbolizes infinity. The one shows that the KOTA members only believe in one God.
