Ludwig Heinrich von Buddenbrock (born February 18, 1720 in Gurnen , † April 19, 1782 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 16 and knight of the Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

Ludwig was a member of the Baltic- Prussian noble family von Buddenbrock . His parents were Otto Heinrich von Buddenbrock (1667–1729) and his first wife Anna Catharina von Buddenbrock adH Gurnen. His brothers were the Prussian major general Bernhard Friedrich von Buddenbrock (1725-1807) and the Prussian major and chief of the 1st standing grenadier battalion Wilhelm Ernst von Buddenbrock († 1760).

Military career

Buddenbrock was on March 4, 1740 Second Lieutenant in Infantry Regiment No. 3 of the Prussian Army . In the First Silesian War he marched with the grenadiers to Silesia . In 1741 he was with the siege and capture of Glogau . He then came to the battle of Mollwitz and was there when Breslau was taken. In 1742 he was captured in the battle of Groß-Jägersdorf . At the end of the war Buddenbrock was released and returned to his regiment in Halle . In the Second Silesian War he marched to Bohemia and was present when Prague was taken . In December 1744 he became Prime Lieutenant and fought in Silesia that winter. In 1745 he fought in combat at Habelschwerdt as well as at Hohenfriedberg and Thrush .

On June 6, 1751 he became a staff captain and in the Seven Years' War he first took part in the Battle of Lobositz . On October 21, 1756 he received his own company . The following year he fought in Prague and Kolin . The regiment was then transferred to the western front in Halberstadt . He fell ill and wanted to go from Naumburg to Halle when he was captured by the Austrians in Merseburg . He was interned in Krems and was released eight months later. So it happened that Buddenbrock was back with his regiment in April 1758. On February 18, 1759 he was promoted to major . On May 8, 1759 he was among the 400 men who attacked the Austrians near Asch . He then fought in the Battle of Kay . On October 27, 1759 he received a battalion of recovered people that he led from Silesia to Saxony . In 1760 he was at the siege of Dresden when he was captured in a sortie. It came back to Krems and was replaced after ten months. Then he came to his regiment in May 1762, which at the time was at Kunzendorf . On July 22, 1762 he was able to distinguish himself in the attack on the Leutmannsdorfer heights and received the order Pour le Mérite.

After the war on June 21, 1765 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and also received an additional pension. In May 1770 he became a colonel and commander of the Sobeck infantry regiment No. 30 . On January 20, 1771 he was appointed major general and in 1776 received the infantry regiment "Borcke" No. 16. In the War of the Bavarian Succession he marched back to Silesia and was still in command of the Schweidnitz fortress .

family

Buddenbrock was in a relationship with Henriette Wilhelmine Juliane Louise Countess of Solms-Sonnenwalde (* October 20, 1731 - January 31, 1798) from the Schköna family. Although she married Johann Christian Freiherr von Ochsenstein († April 8, 1786) in 1750 , she was divorced again in 1764. Her parents were Adolph Ludwig zu Solms -Sonnenwalde (* August 22, 1706 - October 16, 1760) and Sabine Louise von Thümen (* February 28, 1713; † August 12, 1804). He had a son and a daughter with her. These were on 25 April 1774 the name of Bodenburg legitimized as noble and received on 11 October 1774 to lead his father's royal permission, names and coats of arms.
