Location of the Vilich-Müldorf district in the Beuel district
Former station building (2011)

Vilich-Müldorf is a district of the federal city of Bonn in the Beuel district and borders the city of Sankt Augustin .

Vilich-Müldorf is bounded in the south by the federal highway 56 and in the west by the federal highway 59 and is accessible for traffic. In the east and north is the city limits to the district of Hangelar von Sankt Augustin. Due to these borders, the approximately 160 hectare area has the shape of a triangle. Tram line 66 runs through Vilich-Müldorf

history

The place was first mentioned in 1172 in a document from the abbess Sophia von Wied of the Vilich monastery , in which a Reinoldus de Molendorp is mentioned. The addition Müldorf probably refers to a run at that time on the mill site by flowing Mühlebach . At the beginning of the second millennium belonging to the Auelgau , Vilich-Müldorf came into the possession of Kurköln together with other neighboring areas on the right bank of the Rhine .

Later attached to the city of Beuel as a district, Vilich-Müldorf became part of the city of Bonn in 1969 as part of the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Vilich-Müldorf today

The place is characterized by the small-scale building structure in the center with lively construction and planning activity at the local borders. The residential area in the immediate vicinity of the center of the federal city of Bonn attracts numerous people interested in building, so that the population is growing rapidly. The current urban development measure is the residential park Vilich-Müldorf, with the residential area "Im Ziegelfeld" on the southwestern edge of the town and the main development area of the residential park Vilich-Müldorf between the old town center, the Federal Border Guard and Bundesstrasse 56. This and earlier construction projects have reduced the population since 1970 grown approx. 60 percent. There are currently 1,164 (December 31, 2009) households in Vilich-Müldorf in which an average of 2.32 people live. Since there are only a few smaller craft and service businesses in the district, supplies and purchases are mainly carried out in the business areas of Beuel and Bonn and in Sankt Augustin (Hangelar). The local associations, which organize and hold the annual village and traditional festivals, maintain the cohesion of the village community.

Street names and their meanings

In the old town center of Vilich-Müldorf there were the following streets: Burbankstraße, Bachstraße (today Adolf-Quad-Straße), Mühlenstraße (today Mühlenbachstraße), Beueler Straße, Siegburger Straße (today Flughafenstraße). The remaining streets were created later (mostly after 1945) as a new development area or were renamed.

The streets of the residential park were named after artists and scientists in order to give this area a recognizable identity and to facilitate a rough orientation in the urban street structure.

The list of Vilich-Müldorfer street names shows the street names and their meaning.

Attractions

Cenotaph for those who fell in the World Wars 1914–1918 and 1939–1945 in Vilich-Müldorf

The planning for a memorial in Vilich-Müldorf by the MGV "Sängerkreis" goes back to a time long before the Second World War. It was to be realized on Beuler Strasse. Due to the outbreak of the Second World War and various demands from the rulers of the Third Reich, this memorial was not realized.

After the Second World War, planning for a memorial was taken up again by the MGV “Sängerkreis”. The amount of around 700.00 RM that had been saved up until then was devalued to 70.00 DM by the currency reform in 1948  . The MGV succeeded in collecting the necessary funds through tireless fundraising, so that in 1955 the inauguration of the memorial could take place on a square next to the Odenthal restaurant (today's village tavern). The memorial consisted of 18 individual pillow stones from Lindlar Greywacke with the names of those who fell in World War II, two larger stones for the dead and missing from 1939 to 1945, as well as a large stone in memory of those who fell in World War I. The memorial was embedded in a green area and arranged around a linden tree, which was later to overshadow the area like an honorary grove.

On All Saints Day in 1957, the missing boulder was erected. As already defined in the planning, it bears the symbol of the Iron Cross and the inscription "YOU for honor, US for warning".

In 1962, the owner of the property, who had made it available free of charge until further notice, asked to move the facility to another location. The then city councilor Jakob Bertram asked the city of Beuel to rebuild the memorial in a dignified manner when the planned cemetery was being built.

However, since the new square was not available in time, the city secured the memorial in 1964. During this period, the zinc capsule walled in at the inauguration with contemporary documents about the fallen and missing, as well as newspaper articles and pictures was lost. The documents could be reconstructed and walled in on August 10, 1966 under the high cross of the new Vilich-Müldorf cemetery in the middle of the memorial complex.

Catholic Church of Saint Mary Queen

The church Sankt Maria Königin belongs to the deanery Bonn-Beuel and was built in 1961 for the then newly built settlement (area between “Am Herrengarten” and A 59) on the edge of the village. It was consecrated in a festive ceremony on July 8, 1962. The church was built of red bricks to match the residential buildings in the settlement. The tower's lattice tracery, cast in concrete, was later replaced by bricks during renovation work.

Due to the construction with the rectangular floor plan, the deep saddle roof and the small windows, this type of sacred building is often referred to as "barn". The construction of the church can, however, also be interpreted as a tent, especially since the design of the church was reduced to what is absolutely necessary by Stefan Leuer . A Christian interpretation can be derived from the number of windows in the gable wall (the 13 windows can stand for the Twelve Apostles with Christ at the top) and the ten windows in the entrance wall (can symbolize the Ten Commandments). The glazing of the windows is kept in the liturgical colors of the Catholic Church and alludes to the festivities of the church year.

In contrast to the very simple architecture, the furnishings of the church are rather bulky. The altar, pulpit, tabernacle and baptismal font are cast in artificial stone. The only jewelry found on the tabernacle and baptismal font cover are metals and semi-precious stones. The herringbone pattern carved into the wood of the altar cross refers to the symbol of the first Christians, the twelve rock crystals with the medallion in the middle refer to the apostles with Christ in their midst.

Stick fountain with "Bottemelech jonge"

The fountain of the Bottemelech's-Jonge ("Buttermilk Boy") was created by the Beuel artist Heinrich Esser and inaugurated in August 1988 on the corner of Burbankstrasse / Beueler Strasse as part of a ceremony.

The fountain is a so-called stick fountain. The slender fountain stick, painted gray, is crowned by a small figure. She holds a jug in her hands from which a fine stream of water pours into several collecting basins. At the upper end of the well is a reference to the donor of the well, the so-called Bottemelech's-Jonge, and to the year of inauguration. In addition, the name of the artist is stamped a little further below.

Wayside shrines and crosses

Stone cross on the corner of Beueler Straße / Am Herrengarten

The stone cross bears the inscription: "This cross was erected by Cecilia Heider in Müldorf in honor of the suffering of Jesus and the Sorrowful Mother Mary in 1841."

The founder was born in Vilich-Müldorf and died on March 25, 1870, also in Vilich-Müldorf.

Concrete cross at the end of the extended Mühlenbachstrasse

The cross is on the old church path from Vilich-Müldorf to Vilich. The cross stands on a base of an earlier cross, the remains of which were found in a private garden on Mühlenstrasse (today's “Mühlenbachstrasse”).

In the stock register of the municipality and mayor's office Vilich, the old cross is recorded under no. 84 with the words: "Steinernes Kreuz (Hammkreuz)." The cross or its replacement is in the area "Im kleine Hamm" and was on the front and back Reverse processed in the same way.

It was destroyed in 1990 and rebuilt in March 1991. Today (2008) the concrete is very badly weathered and the cross is in very poor condition.

Stone cross next to the church (formerly Mühlenstraße, today Mühlenbachstraße)

Inscription: “Praise be to Jesus Christ! Erected by the married couple Mathias Frembgen and Anna Maria Emons in 1875. "

The founder, a bricklayer and farmer , was born on October 28, 1821 in Vilich-Müldorf and died on April 11, 1899 in Vilich-Müldorf.

The founder Anna Maria Emons was born on November 30, 1821 in Beuel and died on January 30, 1903, also in Vilich-Müldorf.

Heiligenhäuschen at the corner of Burbank- and Adolf-Quad-Straße

A marble slab is embedded at the foot of the wayside shrine. It bears the following inscription: "Erected (in) honor of the Sorrowful Mother Mary in 1876 by the Virgin Eva Schleifer."

The wayside shrine contains a pietà . The donor is Eva Schleifer, who remained unmarried and was born in Geislar on December 7, 1833 and died in Vilich-Müldorf on March 4, 1902.

In 1989 the Heiligenhäuschen was completely renovated by the Bottemelech's Jonge. The stolen Pietà was replaced by a copy of a medieval Mother of God from the Vilich monastery.

Mühlenbachhalle

prehistory

With the closure of the so-called “Bungartz Hall” in the early 1960s, there was no suitable hall available in Vilich-Müldorf for local celebrations. After that, the major social events of the local clubs first took place in the riding hall of the Petershagen stables and from the mid-1970s in the parish hall of the church “St. Maria Queen ”instead. This could only be seen as a temporary solution because of the limited space.

Emergence

In April 1985, the local clubs (Vilich-Müldorf singers 'circle, Vilich-Müldorf sports club, Kleffbotze carnival society, Vilich-Müldorf bachelor club) decided to launch the "Multi-purpose hall" campaign under the leadership of the citizens' association. In Bonn Bad Godesberg, a dormitory was dismantled for the construction of this multi-purpose hall and the parts were stored in the bunker. Construction and financing plans were drawn up for a hall that was to be built on the lawn of the former swimming pool and into which the bunker , which was completed on May 1, 1940, was to be integrated. The associated property was made available by the city of Bonn on a long lease for 99 years. After a one-year planning and approval phase, the building permit was granted by the city of Bonn on February 7, 1986, and the first groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 13, 1986 by the district chairman Hans Lennarz as part of a public celebration. The official start of construction was August 1, 1986. Thanks to the active support of the associations and the citizens, the Mühlenbachhalle was inaugurated in June 1988 as part of the fair.

use

Today the Mühlenbachhalle has become an integral part of the place and the center of club life. Events such as carnival and fair are unthinkable without them. The Mühlenbachhalle is popular even beyond the town limits and is an excellent place to celebrate family celebrations.

Residential and Science Park Bonn / Sankt Augustin

The plans for the residential and technology park in Sankt Augustin and Bonn go back to 1993. At that time, three areas were planned: for the science park the premises of the comprehensive school Beuel, for the technology park the area between the federal highway 59 and the area of the federal police as well as for the urban expansion Vilich-Müldorf the area between the old district and the federal highway 56.

The Vilich-Müldorf expansion, for which the term residential park has now become established, includes residential park I, residential park II and the Ziegelfeld construction area. The Mühlenbach building area in Bechlinghoven and the Buschweg residential area in Hangelar are also part of the residential park beyond the town limits.

If the areas of the residential park were and are being developed quickly due to the great demand for living space, the euphoria of the planners and politicians for this groundbreaking project with regard to the science and technology park has given way. The lack of interest in this technology location means that the development plans are changed so that the areas can be used for other purposes.

The development project is funded with 23 million euros and extends over 17 years (1999 to 2016). The costs are shared between the state (70 percent) and the cities of Bonn and Sankt Augustin (30 percent).

Vilich-Müldorf residential park

The Vilich-Müldorf residential park became the Vilich-Müldorf residential area from the previously planned expansion of Vilich-Müldorf. It is currently divided into residential park I and the Ziegelfeld construction area. There is currently no building permit for the planned residential park II, but archaeological investigations are already taking place on the site.

Residential Park I

It is bounded by the old district of Vilich-Müldorf, the Mühlenbach, the federal border protection road and the route of the tram line 66. This corresponds to an area of around 20 hectares, 7.7 hectares of which are intended as purely residential areas.

After the development plan "Vilich-Müldorf Residential Park" became legally binding on January 22, 2003, construction of the development began at the end of 2003. The entire residential area has now been marketed and built on. 186 single-family houses were built as terraced and semi-detached houses. In addition, 16 subsidized rental apartments in multi-storey buildings, 10 subsidized row houses and 24 condominiums were built. In total, around 300 apartments were built. In addition, the multi-generational project “Amaryllis” and the integrative residential project “Villa Emma” were implemented.

The planned primary school and a shop to ensure local supplies for the residents were not implemented.

At the end of 2008 the kindergarten of the residential park was completed, which after some discussion in various municipal committees is run as the municipal kindergarten. The kindergarten started in 2009 with two groups. An expansion to up to four groups will take place as construction progresses in the residential park.

The Mikado children's playground was also completed in 2008. The soccer field on the outskirts, which was the former place within the current construction area, was completed in 2006. The work on the Anger was completed in 2010. In the future, this central green and local recreation area will also be the connecting element to the planned residential park II.

The street naming after artists and scientists was decided on January 24, 2006 by the Beuel district council. The naming was based on the proposal of the WTP street naming working group. On November 3, 2005, he drafted a concept for the naming of streets in the WTP site. The concept of choosing primarily names from the street naming list, especially women's names, was taken into account in the concept. As a further criterion for the selection of the street names, it was considered sensible to choose designations in such a large building area that are thematically related to each other in order to give this area a recognizable identity and to facilitate rough orientation in the urban street structure.

Residential park I (building area Ziegelfeld)

The new residential area “Im Ziegelfeld” is currently being built on the southwestern outskirts of Vilich-Müldorf, with an area of around 30,000 square meters. The 38 plots in total have now been sold and developed. Adjacent to the residential building lots, an open space and recreation area has been created that offers play opportunities and overall space for recreation close to home.

Residential Park II

It is delimited by the route of the tram line 66, the Mühlenbach, the federal border protection road and the federal road 56. Since the first realization section "Residential Park I" is completely marketed and largely developed and the demand at the technology location is still low, the realization of the residential park II was brought forward . Building rights for residential park II are expected to be available at the end of 2014. Around 300 residential units are to be created on the twelve hectare site provided for this purpose.

Four urban planning concepts are currently being examined by the federal city, whereby the design by Niemann and Steege is apparently favored.

It's planned:

  • to provide residential park II along Sankt Augustiner Strasse (B 56) with a six-meter-high noise barrier.
  • to connect the residential park II to the superordinate road network via the federal border guard road.
  • in the area of the residential park II to restore the Mühlenbach to a natural state. The public stream zone, at least 10.00 meters wide on the right side of the stream, is intended to be used for recreation and as a compensation measure for the encroachment associated with the development.

Furthermore, a playground with a size of approx. 500 square meters is planned in all four planning concepts.

Technology and Science Park

Of the ambitious project of the 1990s for the technology and science park, only the further development of the science park is currently being discussed in public. The park known today as “Wissenschaftspark-Ost”, which is only indicated by a road that ends in the middle of the field, is bordered by Bundesstraße 56, Landstraße 83 (Siegburger Straße) and Straße Am Herrengarten . This corresponds to an area of around twelve hectares. The development plan for this site, which is located in the Bechlinghoven district of Beuel, has been legally binding since October 2002.

A new development plan is currently being drawn up for the fully developed site so that, contrary to the original intention, small-scale businesses and offices can be settled.
