Mad-Croc Racing was a motorsport team created in 2010 to participate in the FIA GT1 World Championship . It emerged from a cooperation between the Belgian Selleslagh Racing Team and the Luxembourgish DKR Engineering team, with the mention of the energy drink manufacturer Mad-Croc .

history

The Corvette C6.R in the colors of Mad-Croc Racing at Silverstone

For the newly announced FIA GT1 World Championship, the Belgian Selleslagh Racing Team (SRT) and the Luxembourgish team DKR Engineering cooperated in order to be able to provide the two vehicles per team required by the regulations. Both teams each provided a Corvette C6.R of the GT1 category and entered the championship under the name Mad-Croc Racing . The seat and nationality of the team were officially taken over by SRT, but the two teams used their vehicles independently. The main sponsor and namesake of the team was the energy drink manufacturer Mad-Croc , whose design was used for the paintwork of both Corvettes, whose surfaces were modeled on crocodile leather . The vehicles were officially named Corvette Z06 .

When the company was founded, the two relatively small private teams SRT and DKR Engineering were able to build on years of experience with the Corvette used in national GT series and in the FIA GT championship . Nevertheless, the 2010 season was not very successful. The team's poor financial resources resulted in many driver changes: Twelve different drivers drove for Mad-Croc-Racing. Only Pertti Kuismanen , who is closely associated with the main sponsor , completed all the races of the year.

The team was only able to achieve a podium result in 2010 when Jos Menten and Xavier Maassen won the qualifying race in Spa-Francorchamps from pole position . The team's best driver was Jos Menten, but he also scored points with other teams. In the team standings, the team would have finished penultimate if it hadn't been disqualified for not having one of the two vehicles at the season finale .

After the 2010 season, Mad-Croc Racing was dissolved. SRT and DKR Engineering separated, but both initially entered vehicles separately in the FIA GT1 World Championship the following year . There was renewed cooperation between the two teams when DRK Engineering, supported by Münnich Motorsport , switched to two Lamborghini Murciélago and the DKR Corvette was used together with SRT as Exim Bank Team China .

Start number 11

The Corvette with starting number 11 was used by DKR Engineering. It was the C6R-002 chassis that the team had been using since 2008. The drivers were only announced shortly before the debut of the GT1 World Championship. The Dutch GT driver Xavier Maassen was the first to be confirmed, while a commitment from the former Brazilian Formula 1 driver Enrique Bernoldi failed. A few days before the first event, Alex Müller was named Maassen's partner. However, Müller was replaced by Nicolas Armindo at the second event in Great Britain , who had already tested with the team before the season, but initially could not provide sufficient funding. With Mike Hezemans , Maassen already got the third different partner at the third run in the Czech Republic . After the second joint race in France , Hezemans switched back to the other Corvette team Phoenix Racing / Carsport .

For the races in Belgium and Germany , Maassen shared the vehicle with Jos Menten from the Netherlands. Together they achieved pole position and victory in the qualifying race in Spa-Francorchamps , but were canceled in the main race after a puncture. It was the last of a total of three point placements for Maassen this year. In Portugal , Menten was replaced by Julien Jousse .

For the overseas races in Brazil were Sérgio Jimenez and Claudio Dahruj two local drivers obliged. At the final in Argentina , Maassen and the Briton Thomas Serwin were announced as drivers, but because one of the two did not transfer the agreed amount of money to the team in time, the vehicle was withdrawn. As a result, no Mad Croc Corvette started in the finals.

Start number 12

The Corvette C6.R with the chassis number C6R-006 had the starting number 12 and was used by SRT. The line-up of the vehicle was published before the start of the season: The Finnish amateur racing driver Pertti Kuismannen (born 1943) was to share the cockpit with the British Corvette factory driver Oliver Gavin during the season . In the races in which Gavin had other commitments in the American Le Mans Series , the former Finnish Formula 1 driver Mika Salo was to drive with Kuismanen.

In the middle of the season, Gavin ended his contract with Mad-Croc Racing after three racing weekends. Salo also left the team after three events. Neither professional racing driver was able to get good results with Kuismanen. For the event in Portugal , Laurent Cazenave, known from the French GT championship, became a partner of Kuismanen. The remaining three races of the season, the experienced Dutch should Touring Car -Pilot Duncan Huisman dispute. The Corvette was so badly damaged by an accident Kuismanen during training for the final weekend in Argentina that it could not take part in the races.

None of the drivers in the number 12 Corvette scored a point in 2010.

Team ranking

Because one of the two cars was absent from the season finale, Mad-Croc Racing was disqualified and all points of the season were denied the team. After the penultimate event of the year in Brazil, the team was tenth of twelve places with 17 points, ahead of the Swiss Racing team with five points and the already disqualified team from Phoenix Racing / Carsport.

Manufacturer rating

Both teams that fielded the Chevrolet Corvette in the FIA GT1 World Championship were disqualified. However, since the manufacturers' championship was advertised by the SRO Motorsports Group as a “Trophy” and not by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as a brand world championship, the results of Mad-Croc Racing and Phoenix Racing / Carsport were not deleted from this evaluation. With 131 points, Corvette was fifth and penultimate, ahead of Nissan (127 points).
