Marignane ( Occitan : Marinhan ) is a French commune and industrial city with 32,920 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in Provence , Bouches-du-Rhône department .
geography
Marignane is located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department , about 20 km northwest of Marseille on the eastern shore of Lake Étang de Berre . The city area is 23.16 km².

Culture and sights
Sights include: the Romanesque church of St. Nicolas, the Château des Covet , which was built in the Middle Ages and remodeled in the 17th century, both monuments historiques and the tower of the old city gate .
Part of the culture of the place is that the old Occitan language is partly maintained, even if the majority of the inhabitants no longer understand it and only speak French.
politics
Like much of the region, Marignane is dominated by the political right . It also became known as one of four parishes in Occitania that were ruled by the Front National from 1995 to 2001 .
Éric Le Dissès ( Divers droite ) has been the city's mayor since 2008 .
economy
The helicopter manufacturer Airbus Helicopters has its headquarters in Marignane .

Marseille Provence Airport is located in Marignane . There is a connection to the A55 Autoroute and a train station in neighboring Saint-Victoret on the Marseille – Arles line .
