Climie began his career with the Kimberley dynamiters from the America West Hockey League , where he served as a backup behind his brother Chris. During the play-offs, the British Columbia team had to stop playing for financial reasons. For the new season, the goalkeeper joined the Bonnyville Pontiacs from the Alberta Junior Hockey League , which Climie had to leave after one season, as the Truro Bearcats from Nova Scotia signed him for $ 500 . In Truro , nearly 4,000 kilometers from his hometown of Edmonton , he played for two seasons in the Maritime Junior Hockey League and was named the league's MVP in 2004.
After the goalie was not selected by any NHL team in the draft , the Canadian enrolled for a degree at Bemidji State University , where Climie was on the ice for the Beavers , the university team in College Hockey America , which is part of the NCAA was standing. In four years he won the College Hockey America Championship with the Beavers in 2005 and 2006.
Entry into professional business
After graduating from college, the goalkeeper signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars organization . First he played for the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL . But after Marty Turco , the regular goalkeeper of the Dallas Stars, injured, the goalkeeper was appointed to the NHL squad. On April 4, 2009 Climie made his debut in a 5-4 triumph after extra time against the St. Louis Blues . The Canadian was only the fifth goalkeeper to victorious on his debut for the Dallas Stars. He was also allowed to play the two subsequent games in the North American elite class before returning to the third-class ECHL. His contract was extended for another year for the new season. But he was mainly used for the newly founded Texas Stars in the second-rate AHL . The goalie moved into the final of the Calder Cup with the team from Cedar Park . Since Brent Krahn, the team's second goalkeeper, was injured, Climie played a large part of the playoff games.
Despite the performance for the Texas Stars, the Canadian could not agree on a new contract with the Stars organization. He then joined the organization of the Phoenix Coyotes . There he was only used in the NHL when the goalkeeper Ilya Brysgalow was unable to play because of the flu and he acted as a substitute goalkeeper behind Jason LaBarbera . After this in the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins offered a poor performance, LaBarbera was replaced by Climie.
In July 2011, Climie signed a contract with the organization of the Vancouver Canucks , but was only there for the farm team, the Chicago Wolves , on the ice. After he had set the club's internal record for the lowest average goal conceded in the 2011/12 season together with Eddie Läck , his performance stagnated in the following years.
Change to Europe
For the 2015/16 season , Climie switched to the Straubing Tigers from the DEL and replaced Jason Bacashihua there . After adjustment problems at the beginning of his first season in Europe, he increased his performance and helped the Tigers to move into the playoff quarter-finals. After the end of the season, he was named “Player of the Season” by the Tigers' fans. In the 2016/17 season he lacked consistency in his services and therefore did not receive a new contract. In June 2017, the Slovak extra league team HKm Zvolen announced the signing of the Canadian. Although he acted as a regular goalkeeper, his contract was dissolved at the beginning of the season. Difficulties in adapting to life in Slovakia were cited as the reason. Then Climie joined the Italian record champions HC Bozen , who take part in the multinational Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . After injuring his knee in the first game against Linz, he was subsequently replaced by Pekka Tuokkola . Although he is still under contract with Bozen, he is no longer part of the active roster.
In April 2018 he received a trial contract with HC Innsbruck , played three competitive games for the club and was fired in September 2018 due to poor performance. He then moved to the Sheffield Steelers .
