Career
Michael Rupp began his career as a hockey player in the Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 1997 to 2000 for the Windsor Spitfires and Erie Otters . During this time he was first selected in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft as the ninth player by the New York Islanders . Since this did not take him under contract in the following two years, Rupp was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the third round as a total of 76 players by the New Jersey Devils . In his first two seasons in New Jersey, the attacker played exclusively for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Albany River Rats .
In his rookie year in the National Hockey League , Rupp immediately won the Stanley Cup in the 2002/03 season with the Devils, who handed him over to the Phoenix Coyotes in March 2004 , where he played for the following year and a half, during which he was in the 2004/05 NHL season for the Danbury Thrashers of the United Hockey League .
On October 8, 2005 Rupp was transferred from Phoenix together with Cale Hulse and Jason Chimera for Geoff Sanderson and Tim Jackman to the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he was active until the end of the season. He then moved to his ex-club New Jersey Devils as a free agent . From 2009 to 2011 Rupp played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He then signed a contract for three years with the New York Rangers , which gave him on February 4, 2013 in exchange for Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri to the Minnesota Wild . The Wild did not extend his expiring contract in July 2014, after which the 34-year-old declared his career over.
