NGC 3501 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic. It is an estimated 47 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 55,000 ly. Together with NGC 3507 , it forms the galaxy pair Holm 224 .
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 3487 .
The object was discovered on April 23, 1881 by the astronomer Édouard Stephan .
