Messier 107 (also known as NGC 6171 ) is a 7.8  mag bright globular cluster in the constellation of the Serpent Bearer . The globular cluster has a fairly open structure and its edges, as can be seen in long-exposure photographs, extend up to a diameter of 13 '. Its distance is about 21,000 light years . M107 is rather unattractive for observers in Central Europe because of its southern position.
