NGC 6166 is an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Hercules . It is the dominant galaxy in the galaxy cluster Abell 2199, around 400 million light years away . NGC 6166 is one of the most luminous galaxies known in the X-ray range .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on May 30, 1791 .
