NGC 6161 is a 14.9 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Hercules at the northern sky . It is an estimated 458 million light years away from the Milky Way , about 120,000 light years in diameter, and is a member of the Hickson Compact Group 82 .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6162 and NGC 6163 .

The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on June 30, 1870 .
