NGC 6159 is a 14.8 mag bright elliptical Seyfert galaxy (type 2) of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 429 million light years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light years across.

The object was discovered on July 20, 1879 by Édouard Stephan .
