NGC 7317 is an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Pegasus , approximately 300 million light years from the Milky Way . NGC 7317 is a member of the Stephans Quintet galaxy group . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This group of galaxies belongs to the class of galaxies .
The galaxy NGC 7317 was discovered on September 23, 1876 by the French astronomer Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan .
