Nageia is a genus of plants inthe stone slab family (Podocarpaceae). They are also called nagi trees. The approximately five species are distributed from southern India and Bangladesh via Indochina to Malesia and from southern China to southern Japan .

Vegetative characteristics

Nageia species are upright shrubs or trees that reach heights of 1 to 50 meters. The rough and leathery leaves are not needle-shaped, but lanceolate with a length of 5 to 20 centimeters and a width of 2 to 6 centimeters.

Generative characteristics

Most of the species are dioecious separately sexed ( diocesan ). The seeds are surrounded by a seed coat ( arillus ).

The Nageia species thrive in the tropical to subtropical forests of Asia and Australasia . Its main area of ​​distribution is in Southeast Asia .

There are about five species in the genus Nageia :
