In contrast to the previous year, the league was initially divided into two groups of four teams each. Each team played back and forth against the three opponents in their group, making the total number of games per team in the main round six. The two group winners then qualified for the final, which was played in the two legs. The last two in the group also played the team that had to compete against the best second division team in the relegation. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.

Relegation round

In the relegation round, the Grasshopper Club, which had at least reached two draws in the main round, met SC Bern without points. The latter ultimately prevailed confidently in the first and second leg with four goals difference. Originally the second game was rated 5-0 for the team from Zurich, as Bern arrived too late for the game, but SC Bern finally defended themselves successfully against the rating of the game, whereupon a third game for both teams was scheduled.

Relegation

The Grasshopper Club was able to assert itself confidently against Chur in the decisive game for relegation and stayed in the National League A.
