action

Simone Mankus is a film and show diva who made a career in the 1960s and 1970s. She enjoyed her life to the fullest and hardly left out anything, had two husbands, affairs, drug excesses and yellow press scandals, was active in show business for many years and had made numerous films.

A few years ago, the former celebrated star fell silent. With the support of her son Jonas, to whom she has never told who his father is, she is planning her comeback . At this point, of all times, she is threatened by a stalker . They therefore instructed the security company by Hans Fallner that her former policeman Robert Fallner, the step-brother of Hans, a bodyguard is to the side.

Robert left the police force after shooting the 18-year-old dealer Marouf in supposed self-defense , and has been in a crisis ever since. Robert actually finds Simone's case ridiculous, which his girlfriend, the policewoman Jaqueline, also blames him for. Simone doesn't make it any easier for him with her debauchery and antics. He hopes to find clues to the stalker's identity in Simone's past, but Simone is not very cooperative.

She lives in her memories and past successes, is moody and drinks. However, she doesn't want to remember her countless affairs, among which the stalker she was looking for could be. In addition to her indebted son Jonas, Jimmy Lanz, Simone's last and violent lover, is one of the suspects. There are also a number of fans and disappointed lovers that Simone cannot or does not want to remember despite Fallner's questions.

Robert tries to set a trap for the stalker, but the plan fails and the stalker escapes. So stepbrother Hans reproaches him. As Simone's concert approaches, the threat from the stalker also becomes more acute. But Simone refuses to cancel her appearance.

While observing Jimmy Lanz, Fallner meets the bar owner Walter Maurer, whose bar Simone frequented in the 80s. Robert learns from Walter's mother Emmi that Horst Bacher from the trade supervisory authority is likely to be Jonas's father. Simone was supposed to take care of Horst Bacher back then so that he could continue to turn a blind eye to the local inspections. In return, Willy Maurer, Walter's father, recommended Simone to a director for one of his films. As the reason why she never revealed the identity of his father to Jonas, she gives Robert that she feared that Jonas could have blackmailed Bacher, who was married. Bacher himself is now in an old people's home for people with dementia.

After another attack on Simone, Robert takes her into his apartment, much to the displeasure of his friend Jaqueline. Robert suspects because of the different threat patterns that there are two different stalkers. During the concert, Simone was attacked on stage. Robert manages to overpower the culprit - the caretaker of the restaurant. Because of her age, he wanted to force Simone not to perform anymore. Soon afterwards there was another foiled attack on Simone in her house: Jimmy Lanz admits to having been instigated by Jonas and his wife Natascha to scare Simone into moving out of the house, which they then wanted to sell. While Robert takes Jimmy away, Simone confronts her son.

Some time later, Simone says on a TV show that Jonas is the best thing she has ever done. She states that she cannot remember the love affair with her bodyguard that is rumored in the media.

reception

Maximilian Haase described the film in the Weser Kurier as a genre mix of drama, thriller, crime and comedy, which would do justice to its leading actress, who was always a great critic of the circumstances. The superficial star hype and the look-fixated film business would not only be celebrated in the film, but also get its fat off. The sometimes wonderful scenes with a very young Iris Berben provided the necessary icing on the cake with their mixture of reality and fiction. The film skilfully plays out the dynamics of the unequal duo of glittering diva and withdrawn ex-bull. Fortunately, the fact that they finally get close is much less kitschy than in the obvious Hollywood inspiration Bodyguard .

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv wrote that filmmaker Nina Grosse is more interested in the characters and cinematic moods than in thriller suspense, the film is more drama than thriller. Your staging possesses style and irony, shows taste and a great understanding of the zeitgeist. The actress herself builds on the strong achievements of her last big films, Murathan Muslu as a silent silent man is an ideal cast. Between the two there would be a wonderful interplay of looks and small gestures.

Martin Fichter-Wöß ( Austria Press Agency ) said that the title was program here, and probably only a few actresses have the coolness to celebrate their milestone birthday unpretentiously as an aged diva with a clear tendency towards alcohol. The filmmakers consciously allowed fiction and reality to merge, as the figure of Mankus shows many parallels to Berben, which is underlined by interspersed excerpts from works with the young Berben. Classics such as Supergirl - The Girl from the Stars , Ms. Radish, the Czerni and I or stand-up girls evoked times gone by. Not getting dead also reveals a new facet of the artist: Iris Berben is a surprisingly good singer.

Isabella Wallnöfer said in the daily newspaper Die Presse that the attraction of this film is that you don't know where reality ends and fiction begins. The fact that Fallner begins to be interested in Simone Mankus and it crackles despite the age difference does not seem implausible or embarrassing. Because Berben like Muslu played great. Both showed how to equip a character with depth and sensitivity without outrage.

Julian Miller fromquotemeter.de said that this film is dramaturgically Whodunit and not psychodrama, which bites with its quintessence in terms of content: Who is constantly groping around the Grünwalder estate at night and driving the actress insane does not matter. Much more exciting is what this situation does to her. But unfortunately the film doesn't come up with any particularly interesting impressions. Much too thin in terms of content for the ability of Iris Berben and the reason for this film.

Sylvia Staude wrote in the Frankfurter Rundschau that there was absolutely no reason to pull Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner out of the DVD drawer and dust them off. Iris Berben and Murathan Muslu have the much more interesting rough edges than Simone Mankus and Robert Fallner.

Wolfgang Höbel from Spiegel described the film as a "detective comedy that only stumbles in motion because of the sheer pleasure of winking and then becomes quite enjoyable". Iris Berben turns the terrified diva into a Bavarian Venus in a fur coat. The extremely lame bodyguard Fallner would be lolled down by Murathan Muslu. It's fun to watch this security guy flirt with his client like they're Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston; after all, the music is better than in Bodyguard . In some scenes, however, Billy Wilder's Boulevard of Dusk is reenacted.

Quota

The first broadcast on ZDF on August 10, 2020 was followed by 4.75 million viewers, the market share was 18.6 percent.
